About IAM

What does IAM do?

Indy Animal Media is dedicated to speaking out for those who can’t. We use online media such as video and audio to share news and stories about animal welfare.

Why does IAM exist?

Though IAM is dedicated to the welfare of all creatures great and small, we believe that compassion begins at home. Americans spend billions of dollars on their pets every year, and donations to animal-welfare organizations are the fastest-growing section of philanthropy in America, but in spite of this, the majority of perfectly adoptable animals that would make great pets are killed in animal “welfare” facilities. Knowledge is power, and we hope to empower the American people to step forward and stop the needless killing of shelter animals. The first step towards welfare for all animals starts at home, with the animals Americans are closest to: their pets. When people become compassionate towards the animals those closest to them, they’re more likely to become aware of issues further from home such as industrial farming of cattle, hogs and chickens, and the plight of nearly extinct species around the world. IAM also operates with the belief that compassion towards animals leads to humans having more compassion for their fellow man.

What can I find in IAM podcasts?

Though IAM and AAA were formed with the intent of saving the lives of would-be pets nationwide, we’re also dedicated to improving the lives of dogs, cats and other animals who have been saved. With this in mind, we’re always looking for good stories to share with animal lovers everywhere. We’ll have stories about animal welfare professionals who operate successful shelters with high adoption rates; stories about veterinarians who help with programs such as TNR (Trap Neuter Release); stories of animals who’ve been saved; and stories about pet- and environmentally friendly services and products.

What’s a podcast?

You can find IAM’s stories in the form of podcast episodes on our website. A podcast episode is simply a multimedia file on the internet which you can subscribe to through services such as iTunes, listen to on our website, or download to your computer and burn to a CD or put on a portable player like an iPod.

If you have questions, please contact us. We’d love to help!

Where is IAM based, and is it a non-profit organization?

IAM is based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The “Indy” refers both to Indianapolis (home of the Indy 500, of course!) and also to the fact that IAM is independent of the mainstream media and bureaucracy that has typically worked to protect or hide the established policies that abuse or kill so many animals in America.

IAM is not yet a non-profit organization. That said, it does not exist to make money - it exists as a vehicle of education and entertainment. Though you might see ads on IAM pages, any money generated from these simply will go to web and podcast maintenance (i.e. website hosting, video tapes and batteries) and the costs of driving, when necessary, for one-on-one interviews.
